PhoboZ Dutch multi-gaming team

About PhoboZ
PhoboZ started as a Dutch Counter Strike: Source clan.
In the beginning of April 2007 my cousin and my brother decided we wanted to start a clan. First we didn't even know what game it should be, but we all liked the game Counter Strike: Source.
We had to thought of a name that was cool, creative and eye-catching. Because we like a name which actually has a meaning, we decided it could be something latin or greek.
The name PhoboZ corresponds with the Greek word Phobia which is the root word for fear. Phobos is also an ancient Greek god, he is the personification of fear and horror.
We added the Z for the gamers effect.

These three people started it:
  • Berno "escoball" Heijink
  • Yoran "Alpha" Weide
  • Ingmar "turtle" Weide
The history
Finally we had chosen for:

1. A Dutch speaking clan playing Counter Strike: Source
2. We are going to attend LAN-parties and therefore Dutch speaking would make communication easier.
3. We first want to have a stable team, no matter what skill they had, and finally we would become better.

Ofcourse this last point wasn't realistic, because not everyone would become better. Therefore we had to kick a lot of players, since some people couldn't get better or became inactive.
The second problem we had was management, because Yoran and Berno were both new to running a team we had to look for someone else to help with managing.

Tom "solopher" Keur was and is a good friend and he also had the experience of running a team. He joined and he has helped us a lot with our website.
About one year later we had a good team, but Tom couldn't be active anymore due to work.

When Tom left the team our management was no more. I (Ingmar) had to think of something else.

A new start
This was the opportunity to try something new, we were able to have a 'informal' organisation. All decicions were made by the team itself.

We had the following team at this time:
  • Steven "revolt" Tang
  • Niels "fv1" Greven
  • Bart "zer0" Dekker
  • Eric "impact" Tang
  • Ingmar "turtle" Weide
and finally
  • Yoran "alpha" Weide
Yoran had become our backup player, he didn't want to be as active as before anymore but he is almost always able to play backup for another player.

Bootcamp
Soon I knew this team was willing to learn, was trying to become better and most important for me, respected each other's talents.
Our first bootcamp was coming up in the summer of 2008.

1.5 years had passed since the start of PhoboZ. The way our team has grown makes me proud.
We soon bought a new website at a very nice guy Eric "vivven" Houtepen. This guy has also helped PhoboZ to what it has become although he might not know that.

Because of a few sponsors, for our bootcamp and also for game-servers and ventrilo hosting, we could attract a few other teams.
Including a Counter-Strike 1.6 team and a Trackmania squad.

Set-backs
After NWD29 just zer0 and Netherlands turtle continued playing Counter-Strike: Source, therefore we had to search for a new line-up.
At around the same time all this happend our Counter-Strike 1.6 team and our Trackmania squad also decided to stop gaming.
Therefore we had a real hard time surviving, because there weren't anydays we could play like a team anymore.

The new line-up search took a long time for CS:S but after a long time of trial and error we now have a new line-up:
  • Ingmar "turtle" Weide
  • Patrick "maDe" Verhoeven
  • Bart "puLse" Dekker
  • Farid "Farido" Bouloue
  • Fatih "b0ssie" Kucuk
  • Hidde "Amp" van Heijst
We have also managed to attract a Call of Duty 4 team they also come from the Netherlands.
The line-up of the Call of Duty 4 team consists of the following players:
  • Ben "reDje" Aangeenbrug
  • Jelke "shiver" Bart Dijkstra
  • Olivier "iStar" Schriemer
  • Sander "Booster" Wijdemans
  • Martijn "frxx"
  • Richard "haxioNN" Robberse
We hope to organise a PhoboZ bootcamp soon, and also hope our Call of Duty 4 team will participate!

Our goals
"We of PhoboZ aim at creating strong and dedicated teams. By attending LAN's we want to make sure that our teams are known for their accomplishments so we can attract certain sponsors.

We think it will be possible to reach top 5 at least. We also aim at creating fully national teams, because it will be easier for communication and participating at LAN's. "
